15. The Pointless Wedding Subplot - Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 certainly delivered a more crowd-pleasing, fan-serving sequel, but also suffered from major narrative bloat, largely due to a deeply bizarre human subplot shoved into the middle of the movie.
For some reason, the story devotes an entire 15 minutes - where Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) are largely sidelined - to the wedding of Maddie's (Tika Sumpter) sister Rachel (Natasha Rothwell) in Hawaii.
This chaotic yet wildly unnecessary sequence just keeps going and going and going, culminating in Rachel learning that her husband-to-be, Randall (Shemar Moore), is actually an undercover G.U.N. agent, and the bride consequently wreaking havoc on the wedding venue with a golf cart.
It might've been passable fun as a brief interlude, but at an entire quarter-hour it massively outstays its welcome.
The actors certainly do fine enough work with what little they have, but why did anyone think that Sonic fans wanted this much human nonsense in a Sonic movie?
