18. Jean Jacket's Feeding Time - Nope

Triangle of Sadness
Universal

Though there are several unforgettably disturbing sequences in Jordan Peele's Nope, surely the most unsettling of the lot sees the alien creature, dubbed Jean Jacket, hoovering up a bunch of customers at Jupe's (Steven Yeun) Western theme park, Jupiter's Claim.

Beyond the mesmerising imagery of seeing the poor saps get sucked up into Jean Jacket's "stomach," Peele then cuts to show them being helplessly pushed up the alien's digestive tract, where they're crushed into a bloody pulp and their gory remains rain over the surrounding area.

If much of Jean Jacket's physiology remains purposefully vague, Peele gave us a stomach-churningly intimate, deeply claustrophobic look at the alien's brutal feeding process, and how utterly terrifying it'd be to suffer this horrifyingly protracted death.

If there was somehow any lingering doubt about Peele's horror chops, this sequence proved him a master of visceral genre storytelling.
