The Film

John Hughes' iconic teen sci-fi comedy may not be up to Hughes' highest standard, but it's still a quintessentially 80s movie with charm to spare.

In 2013, a remake written by Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street) was announced, which would apparently update the original with a gender-swap and an R-rated tone.

Is It A Good Idea?

It'd be incredibly difficult to do a straight remake of Weird Science in the current climate, but a subversive spin which inverts the objectification definitely has a ton of potential.

Bacall's a talented writer (sometimes) and a more adult tenor suits the premise rather well, so it really comes down to the casting at the end of the day. Namely, who would play the scientifically-engineered "dream man"?

What do you make of these upcoming remakes? Shout it out in the comments!
