It doesn't really matter how many people met the news of the Memento remake with venom, it's still going to happen. The studio who own its rights - AMBI Pictures - have already shown their colours by licensing out to three foreign remakes in Tamil as Ghajini (2005), in Hindi as Ghajini (2008), and in Bengali/Bangla as Dhoka (2007).

Monika Bacardi at AMBI Pictures says they plan to "stay true to Christopher Nolan's vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original". Which makes you wonder why they're even bothering.

AMBI are the same company who have bought up the rights to Cruel Intentions, I Heart Huckabees, The Passion Of The Christ, Rush, Robot & Frank and Donnie Darko, so if you're hoping not to see any of those remade, brace yourself.

Is It A Good Idea?

This one is pretty baffling: is the original not good enough? Was the hand of Christopher Nolan not good enough to preserve the integrity of the film that launched his career?

Is Hollywood really this cynical?
