Who needs Sly Stallone, right? It may sound like a crime against classic 80s cinema, but there will be a new Rambo movie, and it won't star its famous iconic lead.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brooks McLaren has written the confusingly named Rambo: New Blood and The Iceman's Ariel Vroman will direct. This replaces the Stallone-driven Rambo: Last Blood and the TV series (also called New Blood that would follow Rambo and his long-lost son), with Stallone happy to have bowed out on a high point with 2008's Rambo.

Is It A Good Idea?

Well, no frankly. They should have done it the same way they did Creed, launching a sort of back-door spin-off starring the next generation alongside the veteran, but with Stallone reluctant and the bankability of the brand, it was sort of inevitable it would happen eventually.

As long as they don't make it some empty-headed muscle-bound actioner, it might work - but moving too far away from the original's spirit would be a mistake.
