20 Movie Remakes You Didn’t Know Were In The Works
4. Flash Gordon
The Film
It's a travesty that there wasn't a Flash Gordon sequel in the 1980s, but it's even worse that none of the attempts to remake it on the big screen have come off. However, after a long time kicking around development hell, it looks like Mark Protosevich is on board to write.
He'd possibly join Matthew Vaughn, who was linked with the directing gig in 2016, after the film emerged from the wilderness (it was rumoured the failure of John Carter killed it). Whether Vaughn has taken the job on remains to be seen (though his link to Man Of Steel 2 might complicate matters).
Still, it's apparently lumbering on, and best of all, Samuel L Jones has expressed some interest in reappearing.
Is It A Good Idea?
Superheroes are big business, and the weird obsession of the Ted movies with Flash Gordon might have made modern audiences a little more aware of the property.
The only real issue is that Flash Gordon was a glorious, kitsch exercise in camp, and it probably wouldn't work as a serious movie. All of the joy would be sucked out of it.
