The Film

After being stuck in development hell since it was initially announced in 2012, the Police Academy remake/reboot was given an almighty shot in the arm when it was revealed that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are producing. Beyond that, details are a little unclear, but Scott Zabielski has been previously attached to direct a screenplay by Jeremy Garelick.

Hopefully, their involvement means Key and Peele will also be starring. If there's no Steve Guttenberg cameo, we riot.

Is It A Good Idea?

It's a great idea, given the talent. And there's definitely enough in the Police Academy brand to sell more films. It's just about capturing the right tone.

Weirdly, Key told CinemaBlend that David Ayer's End of Watch was being used as an inspiration point, along with M*A*S*H, which is a much better thing to focus on:

"It's mostly about having a sense of, when Jordan was pitching the idea, it should feel a little bit like End of Watch - and this is going to feel like a strange reference, but it should also feel a little bit like M*A*S*H*. Do you know what I mean? M*A*S*H* is hysterical, but still [really about the Korean War]. We're moving in that direction."

Sounds interesting at the very least.
