How many remakes is too many remakes? Scarface has already been done twice, but according to Universal, their 2018 version will simply take elements from both the 1983 version and its 1932 predecessor and tell a new spin on the story.

It's still going to focus on an immigrant who becomes kingpin, but it will be set in LA and follow a Mexican lead, played by Rogue One's Diego Luna, with the Coen Brothers the latest to tackle the script. So far there's no director after Antoine Fuqua left in January, but it's still trundling on.

Is It A Good Idea?

The first remake was a classic, and you should only ever try to remake something if you really think you can improve on it. Otherwise it's cynical and redundant.

But at least it has an excellent lead and truly genius writers, so maybe there's some hope that the new take on the story can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its predecessor?
