20 Movie Scenes That Are Totally Flawless

18. My Guardian Angel - Amélie (2001)

The Boondock Saints Willem Dafoe
Miramax Films

Jean-Pierre Jeunet's dazzling comedy-drama Amélie follows the title character (a delightful Audrey Tautou) as she embarks on a mission to bring happiness to the people around her whilst grappling with her own uncertainty and isolation.

Early in the film, Amélie accidentally comes across a small metal box filled with childhood memorabilia - photographs, toys - and hunts down its former owner, Dominique Bretodeau (Maurice Bénichou).

Reunited with his old memories, Bretodeau tears up remembering his childhood, and makes the decision to reconcile with his estranged daughter and grandson.

A beautifully shot scene brought to tear-jerking perfection by Bénichou's moving performance, the entire sequence is laced with a dream-like quality of vibrant colours and a nostalgic flashback sequence, and sets the rest of the movie in motion on an undeniable high.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
