20 Movie Scenes That Should've Been Cut
10. "Get Away From Her..." - Alien: Romulus
Alien: Romulus was a mostly very solid return to form for the beloved sci-fi horror franchise, though it was also rightly criticised for leaning a little too hard on the series' legacy with its overabundance of callbacks to the better, earlier films in the series.
Even if you could deal with the iffy inclusion of an uncanny valley CGI deepfake of Ian Holm as a Weyland-Yutani android, director Fede Álvarez well and truly crossed the line with that one-liner during the finale.
When android Andy (David Jonsson) shows up to save his surrogate sister Rain (Cailee Spaeny) from the Xenomorph, he shoots it before quipping, "Get away from her... you b*tch?"
Any Alien fan will of course know that this is a nod to the very same line spoken by Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in the climax of the series' first sequel, Aliens, but its inclusion here feels nauseatingly forced and pandering, like something you'd expect to see in a fan film.
They probably could've gotten away with Andy just saying, "Get away from her," but adding the "you b*tch" on the end basically just epitomises everything that's wrong with modern franchise filmmaking - a refusal to take risks and an unrelenting desire to dine out on tired nostalgia.
