12. Fight The Power - Do The Right Thing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U35MvblI4og The Song: Fight The Power - Public Enemy (1989) The Scene: The song appears several times throughout the movie via Radio Raheem's boombox, but the first time we hear it is during the spectacular opening credits. Rosie Perez dances frenetically on an empty stage while images of the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Bed Stuy are projected in the background. Why It's Great: It sets the film up perfectly and establishes a feverish tone from the onset. Perez's dancing, combined with the editing, make for a powerful and breathless out-of-the-ordinary opening credits. The song choice is also perfect and parleys to the viewer the overall message of the film.
