13. The Transformation - An American Werewolf In London
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFLQS12z8K4 The Song: Blue Moon - Sam Cooke (1959) The Scene: Although Blue Moon is played several times throughout the film (the film is bookended by Bobby Vinton's crooning version over the opening credits and The Marcels' doo-wop version over the end credits) It's the epic transformation scene, where David Kessler finally succumbs to his lycanthropic fate. Why It's Great: It's one in a series of 'wink wink, nudge nudge' musical cues. Director John Landis is on the joke, in fact he's the one delivering the punchlines. It's a pretty horrific scene and Cooke's soothing version of Blue Moon wouldn't fit it in any other film but this one.
