20 Movie Sequels That Start Immediately After The First
11. Halloween II
John Carpenter's original Halloween concludes with Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) shooting Michael Myers (Nick Castle) off a balcony, but when he goes to confirm the kill, The Shape has vanished.
And Halloween II kicks off right at this moment, recapping the previous film's closing minutes before returning to Halloween night 1978, as Dr. Loomis and the police resume the hunt for Michael while Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is treated at Haddonfield Memorial Hospital for her injuries, where Michael pursues her.
It was relatively rare at the time for a horror sequel to pick up literally seconds after the end of the previous film, though many fans complained about the decision to have Laurie confined to Haddonfield Memorial for the entire film.
A realistic outcome for Laurie, for sure, but not the most exciting option cinematically speaking.
This structure was echoed in the more recent David Gordon Green-directed Halloween trilogy, where Halloween Kills began straight after the end of the 2018 film, and even repeated the same plotline of having Laurie stuck in a hospital for most of the runtime.
