20 Movie Sequels That Were JUST Confirmed

Considering that The Simpsons Movie was a massive success in 2007, grossing an astonishing $536.4 million against a $75 million budget, many assumed that Fox would swiftly get to work on a sequel.

Though Simpsons producers have often discussed a second movie over the years, they've also stressed the toll the first film took on the cast and crew while maintaining production of the TV series, and so eventually many fans lost hope of The Simpsons Movie 2 ever happening.

But this past September, 20th Century Studios unexpectedly announced that the sequel was indeed coming and even dropped a release date of September 3, 2027.

Considering the lengthy production time of any animated film, that date suggests The Simpsons Movie 2 is already pretty deep into development. 

We know nothing more than that, but after almost a full two decades of speculation, fans can rest easy that a new big-screen Simpsons film is on the way.
