9. Powers Boothe
In his early career actor Powers Boothe scored roles in
Walter Hill’s 1981 thriller Southern Comfort, John Milius’ cult movie Red Dawn
and 1987 western Extreme Prejudice but more recently was known for playing the
corrupt Senator Roark in Sin City and its sequel A Dame to Kill For and HYDRA
leader Gideon Malick in The Avengers – a role he reprised in Marvel’s Agents of
S.H.I.E.L.D in 2015.
Known for his gravelly drawl, Boothe lent his voice acting skills to both the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated shows as Gorilla Grodd while his other TV acting credits include Nashville, 24 and Deadwood as ruthless brothel owner Cy Tolliver.
Boothe also received critical acclaim for his portrayal of two real-life figures – as Jonestown cult leader Jim Jones in the 1980 TV miniseries Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones and Richard Nixon’s Chief of Staff Alexander Haig in Oliver Stone’s 1995 biopic Nixon.
