20 Movie Talents We Lost In 2017
3. Harry Dean Stanton
Before passing at the grand age of 91 last September, actor
Harry Dean Stanton enjoyed a long and fruitful career spanning several decades
that began in the 1950s and 1960s with bit roles in the likes of Pork Chop Hill
and Cool Hand Luke and progressed to a number of roles in both cult and
mainstream films including Repo Man and Ridley Scott’s Alien.
Stanton’s breakthrough role came in Wim Wenders’ Palme d’Or winning road movie Paris, Texas and he soon became a favourite actor of director David Lynch who cast him in several of his movies including Wild at Heart, The Straight Story and Inland Empire.
A talented musician too, Stanton fronted mariachi jazz outfit The Harry Dean Stanton Band and most recently received critical acclaim for his titular role in John Carroll Lynch’s directorial debut Lucky released in 2017.
