Anyone who has watched a Christmas movie or two this festive season will recognise John Heard as the actor who played Peter McAllister, the comically neglectful father of Kevin McAllister.

While Home Alone was his biggest hit, he also starred in over 100 other films during his 40-year career including Paul Schrader’s erotic horror remake Cat People as Nastassja Kinski’s love interest, 80s sob fest Beaches alongside Bette Midler and legal thriller The Pelican Brief.

A prolific TV actor too, Heard received an Emmy Award nomination for his role as corrupt police detective Vin Makazian on The Sopranos and more recently starred in the so-bad-it’s-good TV movie Sharknado.
