20 Movie Villains We Couldn't Help But Love

17. Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice)

beetlejuice Before Bruce Willis was dead the entire time in the Sixth Sense (retroactive spoiler alert), the Maitlands perished in the first act of this early classic by Tim Burton. They go on attempting to live normally after their car accident before realizing they have no reflections and the outside of their house is a Salvador Dali fever dream called Saturn. When the new occupants of the Maitland's home prove to be insufferable (save for the goth daughter Lydia), Adam and Barbara Maitland conjure up Betelgeuse, a wickedly evil spirit able to rid the house of its earthly inhabitants. Unfortunately, the Betel-juice doesn't seem to be worth the squeeze, as he ends up being reckless, maniacal, and ultimately ends up attempting to force the young Lydia to marry him. Why We Can't Help But Love Him: The man claims to have survived the black plague-- and had a good time during it. He's the ghost with the most, and without this guy in the movie we'd just be watching the Maitlands do a crappy job at being scary.
