20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty
12. Maleficent - Sleeping Beauty
Over the years and decades, Disney has brought to the world no shortage of classic villains, from the likes of Snow White's Evil Queen all the way up to the more recent Mother Gothel and Prince Hans of Tangled and Frozen, respectively. One of the greatest and most iconic rogues, though, was introduced in Sleeping Beauty almost 70 years ago.
When Aurora (Mary Costa) was born, her Christening was a huge event, a spectacle, and even a holiday. However, though many were invited, the evil Maleficent (Eleanor Audley) was left off the guest list; something that didn't stop her from actually turning up.
Spoiling the party, the villain bestowed upon the newborn baby a curse that, unless reversed by true love's kiss, would see her die before her 16th birthday. Because she wasn't invited to a party!! It would have been a horrendous response to such a thing, even if it was Aurora's doing, but she was an innocent child.
Since 1959, Maleficent as a character has been explored further with two Angelina Jolie-led solo films, which have given more background to why she did what she did, and why she already held such hatred in her heart for King Stefan and his people, but even so, killing a child over a party invitation? One of the most cruel and evil acts a Disney villain has ever committed, surely?
