20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty
13. Warden Hazen - The Longest Yard
There has already been one antagonistic turn on this list inspired by a game of American Football gone wrong, but this one is arguably worse. Ray Finkle was despised because of the wrong he felt Marino did to him, whereas The Longest Yard's Warden Hazen (James Cromwell) had a far simpler view of things in 2005.
When former NFL MVP Paul Crewe (Adam Sandler) was sentenced to prison time, Hazen pulled strings to get him locked up in his own institution. This was so he could exploit the quarterback's expertise to further his own semi-professional team made up of his prison guards, who hadn't won a championship in five years.
A friendly was arranged between the guards and the Crewe-led inmates, in what was supposed to be a walkover for the former to get their confidence up for the new season. However, when Crewe's team began to take shape, the guards got scared and tried to kill Crewe, but instead murdered the soul of the team, Chris Rock's Caretaker.
Then, during the game itself, Hazen threatened to have Crewe convicted of said murder, with the 25-to-life sentence it would bring. Finkle felt the pressure of losing the biggest and most lucrative game in the sport, and arguably the world. Warden Hazen would have ruined Crewe's life for a pre-season friendly.
