A startling directorial debut from Zowie Bowie (yes, David Bowie's son) aka Duncan Jones, Moon is a superb sci-fi drama in which astronaut Sam Bell's (Sam Rockwell) three-year stay on the moon comes to an end with an unexpected revelation about the nature of his time spent there. Go in knowing no more than that, because Moon is an incredibly surprising and unexpected movie, a hard sci-fi flick somehow made for just $5 million despite looking several times pricier, with an awards-worthy turn from Rockwell that was egregiously snubbed by the Academy. An agreeable mix of grounded sci-fi and heady philosophical ideas, Moon is brainy and entertaining all at once, terrifically shot and among the better recent genre entries.
