20 Movies Every Nerd Must See Before They Die

10. Spaceballs (1987)

Yes, Star Wars is itself too obvious to include on this list, what about the classic Mel Brooks spoof? Spaceballs is a deliriously entertaining and unapologetically demented send up which sees Brooks unveil some of his best physical comedy, amassing a terrifically game cast (including Bill Pullman, John Candy, Joan Rivers and Rick Moranis) for the wild ride. Where to even begin? There are so many memorable and hilarious moments: Jabba the Hutt reimagined as "Pizza the Hutt", Brooks cameoing as the wise master "Yogurt", John Hurt getting chest-bursted (reprising his role from Alien) and the xenomorph performing a dance routine, Dark Helmet having a copy of the Spaceballs VHS while the movie is still going on, and so on and so on. It's hysterically funny even if it was admittedly released several years too late to capitalise on the Star Wars fandom of the early 80s, but outside of that original context, it's endured over the decades as the most uproarious Star Wars spoof.
