20 Movies Every Nerd Must See Before They Die

2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Stanley Kubrick's landmark sci-fi film is either one of the best films ever made or a colossal bore depending upon who you ask, but it's absolutely a movie worth experiencing at least once and making up your mind, especially for nerds. The pace is almost prohibitively slow for sure, but from the gorgeous visuals to the impeccable set design, solid performances and thought-provoking philosophical concepts, 2001 is a film packed with so much humanity, intelligence and jaw-dropping cinematic craft. The film has aged ludicrously well over the near-half century since its release, a towering monument to cinema's potential as well as humanity's. There are countless classic sci-fi movies out there, but arguably none have melded the physical and metaphysical as brilliantly as 2001.
