4. Sunset Song

Release date: To be announced. What's it about? Terenece Davies' big screen adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon's 1932 novel Sunset Song tells the coming-of-age story of a young farm girl in the 1900s and already promises to be a sumptuous-looking affair (if early stills are anything to go by). Peter Mullan (pictured above) also stars as the patriarch of the dysfunctional family. What makes it award-worthy? Terence Davies is one of the great British directors - while his output may not be anywhere near as prolific as his peers Mike Leigh and Ken Loach, his movies are uniformly works of art and he's no stranger to winning awards. Sunset Song has been in the pipeline for some time, so let's hope the wait is worth it and Davies delivers another stunning work of cinema.
