With writer-director Terrence Malick helming the project very little is known about the ins and outs of the plot - Malick is notoriously secretive about his projects and tends not to let anything slip before release. However, what has been released of Knight Of Cups suggests that it may be a critique of celebrity culture and the decadence of Hollywood fame. What makes it award-worthy? Malick may have disappointed even his most strident supporters with To The Wonder, but one misstep in an otherwise superlative career is no reason to believe that Knight Of Cups won't be as good as the filmmaker's better work. It could turn out to be America's answer to The Great Beauty, and a release at the Berlin International Film Festival certainly points to awards consideration.
