20 Movies Released In 2015 Guaranteed To Win Awards

17. The Early Years

Release date: May 21st (Italy) What's it about? Paolo Sorrentino's (The Great Beauty) second English language movie stars Michael Caine as a retired conductor brought back to the stage to perform for Prince Phillip's birthday, an invitation from the queen he initially tries to refuse. Rachel Weisz stars alongside Caine as his daughter, with Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano also appearing. What makes it award-worthy? Sorrentino picked up the Academy Award for Best Foreign Foreign Language Film at last year's Oscars, and the awards just love a royalty-related film so there's every chance The Early Years will pick up a few nominations. A May release sees this perfectly timed for Cannes, too, so keep your eyes peeled for it onthis year's list of Palm d'Or contenders.
