20 Movies Released In 2015 Guaranteed To Win Awards

16. Carol

Release date: Autumn What's it about? Phyllis Nagy adapts Patricia Highsmith's The Price of Salt to the big screen, with Todd Haynes taking on directing duties. Highsmith's typical suspense thriller story here takes on an erotic undertone, with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara playing lesbians caught up in 1950s prudishness and more nefarious goings-on besides. What makes it award-worthy? Having playfully structured his earlier film Velvet Goldmine along the lines of Citizen Kane and subverting the standard music biopic with I'm Not There, director Haynes has a track record of delivering interesting and original movies. He's also no stranger to awards nominations, with his earlier work Far From Heaven once tipped for a Best Picture Oscar so there's every chance Carol will follow suit.

Andrew Dilks hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
