20 Movies Since 2010 So Awful They're Actually Harrowing

11. Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four Doom
20th Century Fox

A movie which was evidently only made to prevent the rights from reverting to Marvel, this is one of many recent superhero movies which had clearly been butchered by studio interference. Indeed, the only fantastic thing here is its ability to make every other terrible comic book movie of recent times look like Citizen Kane.

It’s a dour, joyless, and ugly movie with virtually no action at all, and a screenplay so lifeless and dull it makes you yearn for the earlier, cheesy Fantastic Four movies.

Not even a good cast can save this movie and the ‘team’ never even remotely feel like one. This is something worse than style over substance, since it has neither, making this a particularly depressing watch. This is a film that feels like lots of different extracts of different films rammed into a blender, and the final result is never coherent in any form.

Meanwhile, the reshoots are hilariously obvious, with Kate Mara's changing hair and elements from the marketing entirely absent from the film likely to induce both incredulous laughter and plenty of face-palming. It's unlikely there'll be a Marvel movie worse than this anytime soon.
