Though it's certainly wise to question whether or not the world really needs another Jungle Book adaptation less than three years after Disney's smash hit live-action version wowed just about everyone, the fact that performance capture maestro Andy Serkis is both directing and portraying Baloo certainly makes one eager to see what he'll bring to the table.

With a cast pretty much as fantastic as last year's movie, including Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch (as Shere Khan, obviously), Tom Hollander, Cate Blanchett (as the seductive snake Kaa), Naomie Harris and Freida Pinto, it's certainly not wanting for acting talent, and hopefully the film will be different enough from the 2016 version to stand on its own two feet.

Serkis has promised that his version of the story will be darker and more psychologically complex than any existing adaptation, perhaps allowing this and the previous version to co-exist as tonally disparate sides of the same coin.
