Although it wasn't the first movie to do it, the success of Get Out has really opened doors for movies all about subverting and unpacking modern racial issues in darkly humorous ways.

The next film attempting to do the same thing is Boots Riley's Sorry to Bother You, chronicling the life of Cash, a down-on-his-luck telemarketer who can't get anyone to listen to him until he starts using his "white voice". Tapping into issues of identity, class and race in a "I'm not black, I'm OJ!" kind of way, the film is obviously going to be incredibly relevant, no doubt making it one of the most pressing releases of the year.

Already being heaped with praise before its release and currently enjoying a solid 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics have praised the script's biting humour and execution of the unique premise. The film is more than just its set-up though, with the director bringing a distinct, strangely dystopian visual style to the project, helped in no small part by the flick's inventive alternate present-day Oakland setting.
