20 Movies That Will Win Oscars In 2023
10. All The Beauty & The Bloodshed
Though the Best Documentary Feature category is a notoriously unpredictable one, where buzzed-about critical faves often end up snubbed for even a nomination, the current momentum is undeniably with Laura Poitras' (Citizenfour) new documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.
The doc, a portrait of photographer-activist Nan Goldin and her efforts to have Purdue Pharma held responsible for their role in America's opioid epidemic, has received universal acclaim so far, and even went on to win the Venice Film Festival's coveted top prize, the Golden Lion award, which has only ever been given to a documentary twice.
With its enormous topicality, Poitras' film is currently the one to beat for the Oscar, and short of a surprise candidate emerging on a streaming service in the next few months, the filmmaker's path to the Oscar podium seems basically charted in stone.
