Elvis has been one of the year's big breakout hits at the box office - one of the few adult-skewing dramas of recent times that's managed to gross close to $300 million at the time of press.

And though opinion on the film's script and Baz Luhrmann's direction vary, there's little arguing with both Austin Butler's incredible performance as Elvis Presley and the movie's overall crafts opulence.

Butler is a major, major contender for Best Actor, but even if he fails to triumph, there are sure to be nominations for Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Sound.

Period fare generally has a leg-up in many of these categories, so it seems highly probable that Luhrmann's lavish production will score a gong somewhere - most likely Production Design or Costume Design.
