20 Movies That Will Win Oscars In 2023
14. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio
As much as there's been an exhausting excess of Pinocchio adaptations in recent years, it's looking like Guillermo del Toro's upcoming stop-motion animated take just might trump the lot of them.
By shifting the setting to 1930s Fascist Italy, del Toro is going to ensure his version of the classic text is absolutely singular, and from what we've seen so far it looks nothing short of beautiful.
It's been a so-so year for animation at present, so there aren't a lot of truly mighty contenders to challenge Pinocchio for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, though it will need to fend off Turning Red, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and fellow stop-motion film Wendell & Wild.
Even so, del Toro's track record makes his film the front-runner in this category right now.
