20 Movies Which Could Win Oscars In 2022

Kristen Stewart could win Best Actress next year.

The longest Oscar season ever has finally come to a close, and thank God for that.

But rather than take a breather from the awards circus and consider the tidal wave of splashy summer blockbusters due out over the coming months, there's no rest for the wicked as we look forward to what might end up winning Oscars next year.

The 2022 Oscars are set to take place less than 10 months from now on February 27, 2022, and while the eligibility window hasn't yet been confirmed, the Academy will likely be rewarding films from March 1st of this year (when the 2020-2021 deadline ended) until December 31st.

The 94th Academy Awards will also have a fixed 10-film field for Best Picture, hopefully ensuring that a more adventurous and diverse slate of nominees will make the cut than ever before.

It's obviously so early to consider who will receive Oscar nominations next year and possibly even win the awards outright, but from what we know about what's due for release throughout the rest of 2021, these are the safe bets to keep your eyes out for...

20. The French Dispatch

Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch has been completed for a good while, having originally been intended to premiere at Cannes last May before being delayed for obvious reasons.

And given the awards-friendly nature of Anderson's movies, there's little need to doubt the high probability his latest star-studded oddball dramedy will score itself at least a few nods.

Believe it or not, Anderson hasn't ever won an Oscar despite being nominated seven times for his writing, directing, and producing work.

Best Original Screenplay is naturally the safest bet for Anderson here - he's been nominated three times before - and Academy voters may well feel that he's long overdue the gong.

Crafts categories are also probable, especially Best Production Design, Costume Design, Cinematography, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Film Editing.

The ensemble-driven nature of Anderson's films generally prevent actors from being singled out for awards, but if it adds up to an intoxicating mix on the level of The Grand Budapest Hotel, The French Dispatch could easily end up a Best Picture nominee.
