4. Next Goal Wins
Despite wrapping principal photography almost 18 months ago, we still haven't seen a single official image from Next Goal Wins, Taika Waititi's sports comedy based on the acclaimed 2014 documentary of the same name, chronicling the American Samoa football team's attempts to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The plucky underdog tenor of the story seems perfectly suited to Waititi's talents, even if it clearly won't bring the same gravitas or genre-bending daring to the table of his Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit.
Still, it's easy to see Waititi netting himself another Best Adapted Screenplay nod, and as the team's eccentric coach Thomas Rongen, Michael Fassbender has a strong shot at a Best Actor nomination.
The marketing department certainly faces a major challenge due to the presence of Armie Hammer in the supporting cast, but if the film around him is great regardless, it shouldn't hurt its Oscar chances too much.
