The Pale Blue eye is the latest effort from Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass) and reunites him for a third time with Christian Bale, following up their prior collaborations Out of the Furnace and Hostiles.

Based on Louis Bayard's 2006 novel, this horror-thriller takes place in 1830s New York and stars Bale as veteran detective Augustus Landor, who investigates a series of murders with the help of a young cadet, Edgar Allen Poe (Harry Melling).

As if that's not enough, the ensemble also includes Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, and Robert Duvall.

While not all of Cooper's films have been total homeruns, he's got a unique filmmaking voice which lends his works a distinct, often unsettling energy. There's no reason to expect any different from this.

The Pale Blue Eye releases later this year.
