12. SPIT: The Story of a Caveman and a Chicken (2013)
"SPIT is the story of a caveman who is separated from his tribe. On his epic journey to be reunited with the family he loves, he comes across an unusual traveling partner. A chicken! SPIT and his new friend journey across gorgeous prehistoric landscapes while dodging many trials that come their way! SPIT will stop at nothing in the hope of one day seeing his family again!" WHAT kind of name is Spit! WHY is his name always in all caps! HOW many exclamations points can be put in one movie description! Other pertinent questions from this, what exactly constitutes "gorgeous prehistoric landscapes" and how did the creators of this movie come to be familiar with them? And why would that be considered one of the major draws of the film? Because that's totally why people watch movies, for the gorgeous scenery of a time and place when everything was trying to kill you (maybe they modelled it after Australia?). And, most obviously, why did a caveman adopt a chicken as his traveling companion instead of just eating it?
11. Little Fugitive (1953)
"Young boy fears he shot his older brother who is only faking. Young boy runs away to Coney Island, a crowded beach resort, gets money by returning soda pop bottles for their deposits." Older siblings are the worst. Pretending that you shot them and driving you to flee your home for fear that you will be arrested and charged with the murder of your own brother is exactly the type of bullying, mean stunt you can expect from an older brother. Oh wait, that's not normal at all. That's actually kind of psychotic and emotionally traumatic, especially to a little boy. Thank goodness the kid ran away in the 50s and was able to support himself returning soda pop bottles, in the "Coney Island adventure you've been waiting for!" because that's just the kind of fun, laugh-filled story we love to hear - amusement parks and an emotionally scarred little runaway boy picking up trash for money! Okay, you should know the truth. This movie actually was critically-acclaimed in its day and was selected for film preservation in the US Library of Congress. But god, you'd never guess it from that description.
