20 Opening Movie Scenes That Are Totally Flawless
5. Sweet Emotion - Dazed And Confused (1993)
Few movies have ever been able to capture the style, feeling and atmosphere of an entire generation better than Richard Linklater's cult classic comedy Dazed and Confused.
Before he introduced audiences to the romantic story of Jesse and Celine, Linklater was taking a step back in the 70s with a film loosely based on his own experiences growing up, and telling it without a major plot and a large ensemble in place of one primary protagonist.
For all its great scenes, the best has to be its first, which starts out by blaring Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" over the credits, and finds Linklater panning throughout Lee High School, introducing the key characters in their element and capturing the essence of the film's loose, laid-back structure.
Not only will the song be stuck in your head for days on end, but the brilliant way in which Linklater sets up what's to come will keep you glued until the film's glorious final scene.
