15. Project Pegasus (The Avengers)

In The Avengers, in the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility that went down early in the movie when Loki's attack resulted in the Tesseract portal closing in on itself and destroying it, there was a sign with a number of S.H.I.E.L.D. projects and initiatives written on it. One of those projects was Project Pegasus. It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Easter egg, but it was definitely there and it could prove important in Phase 3. In the comic books, Project Pegasus involves experimentation looking in to other dimensions and alternative forms of energy and it is a key sub-plot in the Civil War storyline, as Tony Stark worked on Project Pegasus to create an extra-dimensional prison - called Prison 42 and located in the Negative Zone - for superhuman criminals and villains. It surely won't be a coincidence that Project Pegasus exists in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe that a Civil War movie is coming to. It will more than likely rear its head in that movie as the Superhuman Registration Act results in S.H.I.E.L.D. and registered heroes coming down harder than ever on villains.
