20 Past MCU Easter Eggs That Will Mean Something In Phase 3

14. Bucky Holds Cap's Shield (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, one of the fights - the one that took place on a busy street in the middle of the day - between the two titular characters invoked an image that will definitely prove poignant by the time Phase 3 comes to a climax. During a close combat exchange between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, Rogers was disarmed temporarily and Barnes was shown wielding Rogers' famous shield - and he did so quite adeptly as well. This was undoubtedly foreshadowing the inevitable fact that Barnes will take over the Captain America mantle from Rogers when the latter dies in Phase 3 - most likely in Civil War (with a lesser chance of it happening in Infinity War). Chris Evans has said that he wants to retire from acting in order to focus on a directing career and he certainly won't be playing the World War II hero for much longer. Expect Bucky to come good and replace him (this also happened in Captain America: The First Avenger, when Bucky wielded the shield on board the HYDRA train from which he fell to his supposed death).
