11. Bill Murray
In my opinion, Bill Murray is a genius. He is one of my favourite actors, yet he remains to be extremely underrated and long flouted by the Academy. He has shown immense degrees of versatility throughout his career, demonstrating this class with his effortless transition from comedic genius to a serious Oscar contender. One of the most ridiculous and embarrassing snubs in Oscar history occurred when Murray lost out on the 2003 Best Actor Award, for his performance in Lost In Translation to Sean Penn for Mystic River. Believe it or not, but that has been his only Oscar nomination to date. Even Bill Murray himself said he was disappointed in missing out on that Oscar and he has since criticised the Academy for this result. With this in mind, it may be that Murray is not doing his Oscar career any favours, and the Academy's dislike of that fact would have grown two-fold after receiving such verbal attacks. The Academy has completely ignored his outstanding performances in Groundhog Day, Tootsie, Rushmore and Hyde Park On Hudson to name but a few, all of which in my opinion deserved Oscar nominations at least. It now appears that his turn as Bob Harris in Lost In Translation, was
the golden opportunity for Murray to become an Oscar winning actor. Currently, after his most recent Oscar exclusion this year, these dreams appear all but over.
