Predicted Critical Consensus: "Denzel Washington brings the Tony Award-winning play to the big screen with plenty of dramatic impact as both director and star, aided by superb supporting work from Viola Davis."

It's easy to have an extraordinary amount of faith in Washington here considering that he himself won a Best Actor Tony Award for his work on 2010's Broadway revival of Fences, and Viola Davis also won a Best Actress Tony in the same run.

If the pair aren't nominated for Oscars too, it'll be a major surprise, and while it's possible the play may hit a few stumbling blocks as it transitions to the big screen, with so much talent behind it, it's definitely a credible Oscar spoiler.
