While Mel Gibson doesn't stand a hope in hell of scoring a Best Director nomination even if he does make the best movie of the year, there's a lot here to be impressed with, and as we all know, Gibson is one hell of a filmmaker, personal misgivings aside.

The absolutely insane and diverse cast (led by Andrew Garfield and including Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving, Sam Worthington, Teresa Palmer and Rachel Griffiths) should bring the drama plenty of praise, and let's face it, there's no way Gibson's screwing up the action sequences.

Plus, it's a fascinating true story and should differentiate itself nicely from the glut of war movies released every year.
