20 Reasons Horror Might Be The Greatest Genre Ever

2. Scream Queens and Hot Chicks

22.02.20132 Even back in the day, original Scream Queen Fay Wray (King Kong) was quite a looker. Horror has had some of the sexiest ladies in the history of cinema grace its screens. Barbara Steele was the hauntingly beautiful English scream queen who made her mark on some of the most influential films of the 1960s including Mario Bava's Black Sunday, The Pit and the Pendulum and The Horrible Dr Hitchcock. European cinema boasted a bevy of starlets during the 1960s and 1970s who starred in a number of horror films. Women who will be fondly remembered during this period include Florinda Balkan, Edwige Fenech, Tina Aumont, Suzy Kendall, Dagmar Lassander. My favourite is definitely Florinda - she was not just a pretty face. She had the acting talent to back up her gorgeous looks (see Flavia the Heretic, Don't Torture a Duckling and Footprints on the Moon). Several directors worked with the same beautiful ladies over and over again because they added a certain spice to their work. For example - Jess Franco - dubious director but never boring when Lina Romay or Soledad Miranda was on the screen Horror is the best genre because it has all the top totty.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
