20 Recent Casting Choices NOBODY Expected
17. Tom Rhys Harries - Clayface
One of the major benefits of making a superhero movie with a more modest budget is that the studio is generally less concerned with casting a bonafide A-lister who they know can get butts in seats on name alone.
And that's definitely true of the new DC film Clayface, where protagonist Matt Hagen will be played by rising Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries.
Harries certainly isn't a slouch in the acting department, evidenced by his fine work on TV shows White Lines and Suspicion, but he just wasn't really on anyone's radar for a role like this.
It's nevertheless a strong endorsement for Harries, all the more so given that he was apparently competing with the more high-profile likes of Jack O'Connell, George McKay, and Tom Blyth for the role, beating all three of them out.
There's no doubt that Harries will make Clayface his own, and with the film's budget being set at a shockingly sensible $40 million - virtually unheard of for a modern superhero movie - Warner Bros. evidently weren't too bothered about his dimmer star wattage.
