3. The Wages of Fear
Henri-Georges Clouzot's 1953 The Wages of Fear is a unique case on this list, because this masterful thriller about a group of men hired to take two trucks of nitroglycerin on a perilous journey has actually already been remade - and shockingly well.
William Friedkin's 1977 remake Sorcerer is a genuinely terrific retelling which stands tall on its own right, with its reputation continuing to improve over the decades.
And so, with The Wages of Fear already getting one very unlikely great remake, why tempt fate by trying to do it again?
But last year Netflix released their own new take, helmed by French filmmaker Julien Leclercq, which came and went without making much of a dent, those few critics who even bothered to review it mostly dismissing it as a generic action movie take on the classic original.
Trying to match both the original and its already-great remake was always going to be tough, at which point you have to wonder why Netflix even bothered at all. Are they really this starved for content?
