20 Recent Movie Remakes NOBODY Asked For
19. The Crow
Sometimes a project takes so long to get made that it feels like the universe is actively saying, "Just don't," and that's surely the case with last year's long-gestating remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow.
Alex Proyas' ultra-stylish adaptation of James O'Barr's comic book series is such a distinctive product of the mid-'90s and such an effective adaptation overall that for many the inevitable remake roused little interest.
And considering that it took more than 15 years to finally get made, with various actor-director teams dropping out during development, it just seemed like a sign to leave well alone.
But Hollywood knows nothing about that, and so of course it finally happened, with Bill SkarsgÄrd and FKA Twigs playing Eric and Shelly respectively, while journeyman filmmaker Rupert Sanders (Ghost in the Shell) directs.
Predictably, The Crow 2024 was largely panned as an inferior take on O'Barr's material which attempted to reinvent it as a sub-John Wick crime thriller with a few mildly diverting action sequences.
Why would anyone, anywhere sit down to watch this when they can just enjoy the brilliant original again?
