18. Red Sonja
Though technically a new adaptation or "reimagining" of the original Red Sonja comics, for all intents and purposes this is a remake of the 1985 Brigitte Nielsen-starring sword-and-sorcery epic which while hardly good still has its many fans four decades later.
Hollywood has been trying to get a new Red Sonja going for about 15 years, with Rose McGowan and then Amber Heard in talks to play the lead role at various points, but it only finally came together this year.
Yet it was tough not to be skeptical about this one for so many reasons - for one, the trailer made it abundantly clear it lacked the budget to do this epic story full big-scale justice, it had an army of producers suggesting another "too many cooks" situation, and it was theatrically released in the U.S. for just a single day.
Ultimately, the big surprise is that Red Sonja 2025 really wasn't that bad, admittedly in large part due to Matilda Lutz's gutsy, committed performance and a cheesy, nostalgic tone throughout.
It's harmless, basically, even though few are likely to remember it for long.
