20 Recent Movies That Made ONE Huge Mistake
9. The Nightmare Fuel Dwarfs - Snow White
Disney's "live-action" remake of Snow White was hardly great, but there's one creative decision which tanked the film in the eyes of many - making the iconic Seven Dwarfs CGI creations realised through performance capture.
Disney ultimately decided not to simply hire dwarf actors to play the beloved characters, which itself generated a contentious discourse online.
On one hand Peter Dinklage argued that casting dwarf actors to play the characters only furthered unsavoury stereotypes, but much of the dwarfism community opposed Dinklage's remarks, noting that the roles would've presented a major opportunity for dwarf actors.
It's certainly a nuanced and complex issue, and regardless of which side you come down on, it's tough to argue with how off-putting the final result looks.
The dwarfs don't convincingly pass for humanoid creatures at all, tumbling straight into the uncanny valley in the same way that the digital creations in Robert Zemeckis' The Polar Express did back in 2004.
And considering the dwarfs are the single most iconic aspect of the Snow White story, to get them so wrong on a fundamental artistic level basically causes the entire movie to collapse in on itself.
