20 Rotten Tomatoes Predictions For 2022's Biggest Movies

13. Top Gun: Maverick (76%)

Buzz Lightyear
Paramount

The original Top Gun was hardly a critical fave, rocking a 58% at present, though that's admittedly from a relatively small sample size, some of which reviewed it upon its original 1986 release.

General fondness for the film has grown considerably over the years, and while it's rather unlikely that Top Gun: Maverick earns rave reviews, the trailers do suggest a film that's going to deliver on its bombastic, style-over-substance promises.

Given the critical and audience affinity for Tom Cruise's daredevil antics, it's easy to see Maverick scoring broadly well across the board, even if most of the positive reviews will probably be of the three-star variety.

Director Joseph Kosinski has two Rotten (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) and one Fresh (Only the Brave) movie to date, though he's never dropped below 51%. With its focus on practical dogfights and epic imagery, this feels like a great fit for his strengths as a filmmaker.
